Copyright and takedown process

Our approach

Cyber Security News publishes short original summaries of stories reported by other publications, always with the source named and a link to the original, plus original articles by named contributors. We never republish full articles. If something on this site infringes your rights, or you simply do not want to be summarised, we act quickly: a justified request is resolved by removal, not by argument.

Who can submit a notice

• Publishers and authors whose reporting is summarised here and who want a summary, an image or their whole publication removed.
• Copyright, trademark and image rights holders, or agents acting on their behalf.
• People named in a story who consider a summary inaccurate, outdated or an intrusion into their privacy or personality rights.

How to submit a notice

Use the contact form and choose "Copyright or takedown request". So that we can act without coming back to you, include:

• the address (URL) of every page on this site concerned;
• what exactly should be removed or changed: the whole item, an image, a passage;
• for copyright: a description of the work and a link to the original;
• your name, whom you represent, and how we can reach you;
• a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.

What happens next

1. Acknowledgement within two working days.
2. Review by an editor, who checks the page, the source and the notice. If something essential is missing we ask once.
3. Action. Justified requests are actioned immediately: the item is removed, the image is deleted from our servers, or the passage is corrected. A removed item disappears from the site, its search, its feeds and its sitemaps.
4. Publisher opt-out. A publication that does not wish to be summarised is disabled as a source and its existing summaries are removed. We honour this permanently unless the publisher asks us to resume.
5. Confirmation to you once the change is live.

Disputes

If we do not consider a request justified, for instance where a summary consists of facts, a short quotation and a link to the source, we explain why and remain open to further evidence. A contributor whose original article is challenged is given the opportunity to respond before a decision.

Images

Pictures shown with syndicated summaries come from the source's own page or feed and are credited to that source. If you own an image and want it removed or credited differently, tell us: it is taken down while we check.

Abusive notices

Notices that are knowingly false, or that target content the sender has no rights over, may be disregarded after a warning. We keep a record of every notice and its outcome.
